“Up In The Air” manages to be entertaining and yet relevant at the same time. I can easily relate to the characters and situations in the movie — George Clooney’s characters enjoys flying, staying in characterless hotels, collecting Frequent Flyer’s Miles, fully utilising his travel budget, and enjoys his freedom and lack of family responsibilities. Anna Kendrick plays a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed recruit in the company — she reminded me of myself as a fresh grad, trying to apply the theoretical ideals that we learned from university to the (real) corporate world …
Jason Reitman manages to turn the otherwise depressing subject of downsizing, corporate greed, life choices, etc into an insightful, funny movie. It’s entertainment without explosions, and touching without the violins.
