The Station Agent is a nice thoughtful story, about a dwarf whose friend dies so he moves to a new home. The best parts of this story are the characters he meets and their development. All 3 of them have deeper problems in their lives, but outwardly we can see how they react to people and how they cope. There is also a girl librarian to complicate things.
4.5 out of 5 stars

"The Station Agent" is an enjoyable character film, about loneliness. Finbar just wants to be left alone, because other people just can't seem to get over his being different (he's a dwarf), even though he claims to be a really boring person (he's a trainspotter); Olivia is separated, and has lost a child; Joe has a roadside wagon in the middle of nowhere, and his life revolves around taking care of his ailing, but demanding father.
In addition, we also have Cleo, a thoughtful little girl, who is far more mature than her classmates; and Emily, the pretty librarian with a redneck boyfriend.
This is a commendable film, with characters that you really care about.
