Another card gambling duping movie. This reminds me of a mixture Confidence, Matchstick Men and Las Vegas tv show. Its not as flashy and the characters are more likeable, but we don't get attached to any of them. Simple story, and we get to see Sylvester Stallone in a non-action role. They tried to make him look distinguished, with hair and make-up how George Clooney usually is.
I'm not really into card tricks or gambling. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

"Shade" is yet another conmen / gambling flick, and turns out to be quite average even though it's managed to pull some pretty well-known actors. It offered nothing new to the genre, and had no intelligent twists or "a-ha!" moments.
Like all the other con movies, "Shade" features many scenes of tobacco smoking, seedy strip clubs and table dancing, sly glances and poses from various actors, etc. The so-called femme-fatale in this movie is weak, her role was just to look good and double-cross every now and then. Stallone's role in this movie felt like a cameo, the distinguished patch of grey hair felt like a part of a cheesy make-up ("Spy Kids 3D" was the last movie we had seen him in, and I couldn't stop thinking of him as the Toymaker in this movie). Otherwise, the acting was all above average, especially for Stuart Townsend.
If you're looking for intelligent con movies, then watch "The Good Thief" or "Matchstick Men".
