Nice movie set in exploration times where Russell Crow (the Commander) goes around on a ship hunting a French ship. I assumed the Master was those young ones who get put in charge of things. Why would someone so young be able to give orders.. I thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and props. There are nice ships with sails, hourglass, sextants, spyglasses, costumes, cannons. All the good stuff you find in games I used to play. There's also weevils eating their food.
A good contrast in character was the naturalist who gets to visit the Galapogus Islands, I'd like to go there too one day.
3 out of 5 stars.

Set during the Napoleonic wars, "Master and Commander" is not so much about the cat and mouse battles between a English and French warship, but centers on the relationship of the men aboard the English warship, HMS Surprise.
"Master and Commander" felt slow at times, especially if you were expecting an exciting action-packed sea-battle movie. There are a few good battle scenes, however, it is the characters that drives the film.
