This is a sappy romantic movie with some fantasy elements. I hadn't seen it in full until recently, and noticed that it's got a really bad 80s soundtrack. They should've stuck with classical music. The main character is a young thief (Matthew Broderick) has bad lines, and keeps muttering crap to himself. I kept wishing that his character would shut up and die.
Apart from the very annoying thief, what saves this movie is its interesting story. Set in medieval a fantasy times, the thief escapes through the sewers and joins up with outlawed (but good) leader of the guard who becomes his protector.
This character reminds me of the recent Harry Potter movie for some reason.
2 out of 5 stars.

Yet another movie that I'd loved in my childhood, but seems a little cheesy now. I think the synthesizer soundtrack spoiled an otherwise enjoyable fantasy love story that features swordfights, sorcery and good setting.
