This is a rather artistic movie with 3 elements that I doubt a single person would be after.

Poetry and Art. Blehhh. I am not one that appreciates poetry.

Homicide and Gore. A few gruesome crime scenes are uncovered.

Love and Sex. The images and dialogue are rather explicit for a mainstream movie. I wasn't expecting anything like that.

I wasn't prepared on seeing so many different elements in one movie, but I think they fused together rather well, even though its slightly irritating. 2 out of 5 stars.

In the Cut is the first Jane Campion film that I have seen, but I had expected it to be a good film because of the acclaim she had received for The Piano.

The protagonist, Frannie, played by Meg Ryan failed to win any sympathy or concern from the audience -- her choice in male companions are questionable, and she frequently walks alone along sinister looking streets and alleyways at night, etc. The other female victims in the film are partially to be blamed for their demise because the dangerous situations they placed themselves in.

The other characters make no sense, and the plot is unsatisfactory. It felt as if they could just easily assign anyone as the killer at the end. It strives to be a classy, stylish film, however, it managed to be just average in the mystery/suspense department. In the Cut fails as an erotic thriller, because it is lacking intelligence and suspense.
