ratbag’s review

Fans of Jim Carrey’s slapstick comedy would either be completely grossed out or hugely entertained (or both) by Jim Carrey’s flamboyant character. Carrey’s over-the-top potrayal of a gay man reminds me of the old movies where they taped the eyes of a white actor (and made him wear buck-toothed dentures) instead of hiring an actual Asian guy. It makes the character less credible. McGregor’s acting is probably the most redeeming, as a kind-hearted, softly spoken love interest to Carrey’s character.

The movie feels inconsistent — should it be a “let’s slip on a banana peel” show, or a “let’s poke fun at gays” film, or a witty, intelligent con movie with a bit of heart??
