We picked this DVD up at Grace Bros for $15 the other day, I remember seeing this on television but I'd forgotten what it was about. It turned out to be a fun story about a kidnapping that goes wrong. The best part of the movie are the characters. The townsfolk seem naive and fixed in their ways, and they speak to each other funny, nodding to each other and saying 'yah' all the time. Its as if the town has been isolated for too long and they've gone weird en masse.

In contrast to the townsfolk we have the two kidnappers that travel to the town. Its amusing to see how the story unfolds, with them helping to make such as mess of everything.

There is minimal gore and violence in the film, and plenty of amusing scenes.

4.5 out of 5 stars!!

Fargo is one of those Must See movies that should be on everybody's Top 100 list! The Coen brothers are excellent storytellers and have created a terrific film with memorable characters in Fargo.

The film features some incompetent crooks, a bumbling, scheming, loser of a car salesman, an intelligent, very pregnant policewoman, and a townful of cheery hicks.

Fargo is set in a bleak, icy, isolated town, populated by some rather eccentric, but nevertheless harmless and friendly folks (think Twin Peaks and Northern Exposure). Well, all harmless except for the spineless, loser car salesman, Jerry Lundegaard, who invites trouble when he decides to put his get-rich-quick scheme in action -- by kidnapping his wife!

As we witness Jerry's plans spiral out of control, and the bloodshed worsen, Marge is shown to be the only capable, intelligent person within miles of the town. Our initial concern about a pregnant woman trampling about on the slick ice and snow and confronting dangerous crooks are soon allayed as we soon see that she can handle herself very well -- from the way she deftly staves off unwanted attention from a suitor, to how she disarms the townsfolk she interviews with her friendly country-folk charm.

A great film for movie buffs, however, fans of mindless action flicks with no appreciation of dark humour should stay away! "Yar!!"
