I had no idea what this show was about when I started watching it. It turned out to be about the making of an old movie by a rebel black dude, where the main character is black and also wins. Apparently that movie was groundbreaking stuff at the time, but I've never seen it. Some painfully politically incorrect movie footage from older movies is also shown. You can understand some of the roots of african american culture from this, and also get a glimpse of the film industry at the time.
